A Luxurious Haven to Call Home

Smart and simple sophistication is one way to describe The Compound, owned by former NFL cornerAsante Samuel and his family. The $9.5 million home is located in the prestigious community of Southwest Ranches, Fla., where other notable celebrities and athletes are known to reside.

The Town of Southwest Ranches is approximately 13 square miles and home to over 7,000 residents. The town is a rural environment, filled with grazing animals, nurseries, farms, exquisite and unique scenery and an abundance of wildlife. The zoning in the town is almost entirely rural residential and agricultural. There is also a growing amount of zoning for recreation and open space, which preserves land for residents’ enjoyment. Southwest Ranches was formed to stop encroaching development, and “preserve the rural lifestyle,” which includes donkeys braying, roosters crowing and no sidewalks.

With groundbreaking in 2009, the home was completed in 2013. Samuel, while traveling from city to city for games, designed the home specifically to his tastes and the needs of his family. According to Ben Moss, managing director at ONE Sotheby’s International Realty Sports & Entertainment Division, Samuel and his wife Jeniva worked closely with the builder on every detail of the home. “Asante was not present for all of the construction because he was playing in the NFL, but he was involved from afar by email and video to make sure his vision was realized and to keep informed on progress,” Moss noted.

The builder, Garrick Hart, president of Hart Homes received extensive training under Stuart Miller, CEO of Lennar Homes. His standards are zero defect delivery.

Costing nearly $10 million to construct, the 18,000-square-foot mansion sits on five acres in Southwest Ranches. It has a gourmet kitchen with a built in espresso maker, a billiards room and a full gym with a sauna. The compound features nine full bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, two half-bathrooms and a 140,000-gallon heated pool with saltwater filtration. “This pool could put any hotel pool to shame,” Moss said. “You have a water slide, a 25-person grotto with two flat screen TV’s, a huge party hot tub and above that a party pavilion.” The massive rock formation that houses many of the pool amenities also has several waterfalls, including a large one that falls over the front of the grotto. “A residential pool like this has not been built before in South Florida as far as I’m aware,” said Moss.

This is the only existing home in the prestigious gated community of Landmark Ranch Estates that sits on a five-acre parcel. Moss said, “This community is very small and counts more than half of its residents as athletes or celebrities. Asante picked the prime location on a cul-de-sac that allows for an outlook of the estate as you turn the corner down the street. It has a lot of curb appeal and there is no mistaking you are driving up to one of the most magnificent estates in South Florida.”

Samuel wanted a sophisticated, elegant, yet family-friendly home. All of the main social areas connect to one another and the entire house is designed to have views of the gorgeous pool area. The house has a design that is flexible to a more traditional or a contemporary feel, depending on how the homeowner chooses to furnish the property.

With ample indoor and outdoor space and a show-stopping swimming pool, this property is ideal for a family who enjoys entertaining. Given the celebrity neighbors, this enclave is also perfect for a high-profile resident who wants to lead a private life.

As the largest home in the community, the mansion is also a smart home. The home includes a remote that controls just about everything from the TVs, the music, the pool, the spa, the lights and even the air conditioning. The mansion also has a server room and A/V room filled with racks of electronics to run the digital home. Additionally, all of the audio, visual, air-conditioning and lighting systems are on a Crestronsystem and so they can be turned off in the press of one button so as to make it easy to not waste electricity.

Samuel hired two design firms to execute his design style throughout The Compound: Miami-based Interiors by Steven G. Inc. and Marc Michaels Interior Design Inc. in Winter Park, Fla. Steven G.’s highendstyle and Marc Michaels’ expertise in interior detailing and space planning created a space that compliments the architectural detailing of the home with warm colors and soft patterns. The contemporary yet sophisticated design detailing is expressed in every light fixture, rug and throw pillow. From textured furniture to a painted striped ceiling that emphasizes the space, each detail embodies the customized approach of the home.

The one-of-a-kind home is a collaborative masterpiece. As for the builder, Hart said, “We have started construction of a new oceanfront home on Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd.,Fla., and another luxury waterfront home on South Southlake in Hollywood, Calif. We also have two luxury homes for sale in Harbor Beach and Rio Vista Fort Lauderdale.”

Designing a custom home is a personal experience and Samuel, known to dabble in real estate, designed The Compound with a vision of quality, luxury and family-friendly features , to create memories that last a lifetime. The Compound offers a sanctuary of luxury living with timeless design.
